Hudson Swafford WITB - American Express Winner
If you are looking for the feel-good golf tournament story of the year, you can read about Hudson Swafford’s performance at the American Express. Swafford is not new to the game of golf or the PGA Tour, but this win was a big step for him. Shooting a final rough 64 proved that the golf clubs were in top working condition. If you wonder what Swafford has in the bag, we can tell you it is an electric mix of plenty of excellent golf equipment. Let’s take a look at what Hudson Swafford has in the golf bag.
Swafford did not waste much time getting the new TaylorMade Stealth driver in his golf bag. This club only came out a few weeks ago, but we have seen it start to creep into many PGA Tour golfers in the last few weeks. This can only mean that players are getting more distance, better feel, and increased overall forgiveness. Swafford has a Project X HZRDUS Smoke Yellow shaft in his Stealth.
Hudson Swafford plays with two matching fairway woods, the Ping i25’s. He has a 3 wood in 14 degrees and a 5 wood in 18 degrees. These golf clubs both have Aldila golf shafts in them. It’s always interesting to see how golfers plan out the woods and hybrids in their bags. Swafford likes the fairway woods and transitions directly into the irons from here.
The irons are the PXG 0311 ST in the 4-9. These irons all have the True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100. With Swafford’s swing speed and large stature, it is no surprise he needed a slightly stiffer player’s golf shaft in his iron set. The PXG 0311 are clean-looking irons that offer plenty of accuracy and spin.
Swafford plays with three wedges from PXG and a Titleist Vokey. The 46, 50, and 56 degree wedges are all the PXG 0311 Sugar Daddy wedges with matching golf shafts to the iron set. The 60 degree wedge is a Vokey Design SM8 Wedge Works with that same True Temper Dynamic Golf X100. The transition from these wedges into the iron set is seamless and something that all players should be considering.
Finally, we have the putter, the club that very likely helped seal the deal for the win at the American Express. The putter is a Scotty Cameron Phantom X 7.5. Hudson Swafford is extremely confident with this putter and recently made a few tweaks to his putting stroke to ensure that he has both the mechanics and the proper frame of mind to make more putts.
It’s always interesting to see what combination of golf clubs helps a player win on Tour. Hudson Swafford has been around the game for a long time, and you can see how this has led to a club selection that incorporates quite a few brands and styles. If you watch closely, these clubs will likely be used quite a few more times in 2022 for some more incredible performances.
