WITB Ryder Cup MVP: Dustin Johnson
It seems as though each year, Dustin Johnson earns more and more fans. It’s not just the winning that people enjoy; it’s his golf swing, his family, his quick remarks, and the way he plays when his golf game is on. If you got to see any of the Ryder Cup tournaments at Whistling Straits, you quickly saw that Dustin Johnson was on. IF you were wondering which clubs he used to get this done, let’s look at what Dustin Johnson currently has in his golf bag.
Johnson is currently playing with the TaylorMade SIM 2 Max 10.5 degree driver. He has a Fujikura Speeder 661 X prototype shaft in the driver, and we all know he hits it quite far. Dustin Johnson is one of the longer hitters on tour, and with his height and athletic ability, that probably won’t change anytime soon.
Fairway Woods and Hybrids
Depending on how Dustin Johnson feels from one round to the next, he will change up the clubs that he has in the bag. The three wood is a TaylorMade SIM 2 Max 3HL set at 15 degrees. This is pretty much a constant.
However, from one tournament to the next, Johnson may alternate between the TaylorMade SIM Max 7 wood or the TaylorMade SIM Max hybrid. At times he will also switch things up with the TaylorMade SIM DHY utility.
It’s good to see players who are flexible with the clubs they have in their bag and choose something that will suit the needs of the course and their game that day.
Dustin Johnson currently has the TaylorMade P730 DJ Protos with a True Temper Golf Tour Issue X100. These clubs are in the bag in a 3-PW, and they have a beautiful club head. When you question why Dustin Johnson can pure his iron shots and stick them close, these TaylorMade P730 DJ Protos certainly have something to do with it.
The wedges in DJ’s bag include the TaylorMade Milled Grind 52 and 56. As you have probably figured out at this point, Dustin Johnson has a fairly sizeable contract with the TaylorMade brand. With his clubhead speed and fun style, he’s a perfect brand ambassador for TaylorMade.
The putter has been the club that set Dustin Johnson apart in any of his wins or his Ryder Cup victories. He is currently using a TaylorMade Spider Itsy Bitsy Tour Limited Black. However, for most of his victories on the PGA Tour, he had some kind of TaylorMade spider putter in the bag; it is undoubtedly a good fit for his golf game.
Hopefully, getting a little insight into the golf bags of these great players can help you build the perfect set of clubs for your game. There is no question that the TaylorMade SIM 2 driver is a high-performing and impressive model that will work quite well even for the amateur golfer.
