Jason Day WITB - AT&T Byron Nelson Winner

It’s been a few years for Jason Day, but he is certainly not a golfer to give up. With a strong field at the AT&T Byron Nelson, Day had his work cut out for him but was able to pull out on top. We wanted to look at the clubs that Jason Day used to win the Byron Nelson and found out that he just recently switched his putter. It certainly seems like that decision was a smart one!

Driver

Jason Day has a mixed set with Ping, TaylorMade, and even Titleist golf clubs throughout the bag. A set makeup like this shows us how proper club knowledge and fitting can really take a game to the next level.

The Ping G430 LST is the current driver of choice for Jason Day, the club is set at 10 degrees, and it has a TPT prototype shaft in it. The LST is known for its low spin capabilities and a ball flight that produces plenty of rollout.

Fairway Woods

For the AT&T Byron Nelson, Day had two fairway woods in his bag. A TaylorMade SIM Max 3 wood with 15 degrees of loft and a TaylorMade Stealth 7 wood with 21 degrees of loft. The 3-wood and 7-wood both have the Mitsubishi Kuro Kage 80 X shaft.

Interestingly Jason Day has not upgraded to the new Stealth 2 fairway woods, but he feels comfortable and consistent with this current set makeup.

Irons

Jason Day has a combo set of irons, which is becoming even more popular with golf professionals today. His set features a TaylorMade P770 4 iron and the TaylorMade P7MC irons in the 5-PW. The shaft in these clubs is the KBS C-Taper 125 S+.

The shaft remains consistent even though the 4 iron and the rest of the clubs have slightly different head shapes and characteristics.

Wedges

The Titleist Vokey Design SM9 wedges are the club of choice for the 52 and 56 degrees. The Titleist Vokey Design Wedge Words Proto is the 60-degree wedge. All three wedges feature the True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shaft.

Putter

The last-minute decision by Jason Day to switch a putter about a week ago paid off. He was one of the top 25 golfers this week in strokes gained for putting. The TaylorMade Itsy Bitsy Spider Ghost is not a new design, but it certainly paid off when a win was on the line.

Final Thoughts

Jason Day’s golf bag is a perfect indication of what smart club selection and strong equipment knowledge can do for a golfer's game. It’s important to ensure you have clubs that specifically fit your needs as a player and the courses you play. If you think any of the clubs in Jason Day’s bag could be a good fit for your game, reach out to a Fairway Jockey representative to get set up today. Even if your speed or attack angle is a bit different than Jason Day’s with shaft and clubhead customizations, anything is possible!
