Driver
The average driving distance for Rory McIlroy is just under 320 yards. Certainly, this is more distance than most amateur players could dream of, but Rory is relatively consistent in these numbers. In 2021, Rory McIlroy switched to the TaylorMade SIM2 Driver with a Fujikura Ventus Black Shaft. The SIM2 driver offers a bit more of an aerodynamic design from the SIM driver of 2020. Most of the TaylorMade PGA Tour Professionals quickly made the switch o the SIM2.
Fairway Woods
Although McIlroy currently has two fairway woods in his bag, sometimes he will take one out and put in a utility. However, the two woods are the TaylorMade SIM 3 wood and the TaylorMade SIM 5 wood. More and more players are moving away from carrying two fairway woods, but this is a set makeup that seems to work quite well for Rory. The shaft in these SIM woods is the Mitsubishi Tensei CK Pro White.
Irons
The TaylorMade irons that Rory McIlory uses are not something that you will find on the market available to amateur players. The irons are a TaylorMade Rors Proto, and he has the 3 iron through 9 iron in his bag currently. Each of these irons has the Project X Rifle 7.0 in them. Indeed this shaft proves that Rory gets a good amount of clubhead speed from his shots.
Wedges
As you likely noticed, McIlory does not carry a pitching wedge with those Rors Proto irons. Instead, he has a TaylorMade Milled Grind Wedge in 48 degrees. In addition, he carries the 56 and 60-degree Milled Grind wedges as well. These wedges have the Project X Rifle 6.5 shafts, slightly softer and more workable for those shots around the green.
Putter
As with most professionals, the wins come down to the putter. When we watched Rory McIlory win in the past, it had everything to do with those 15-30 foot putts that he could roll down. Currently, he has the TaylorMade Spider X Hydro Blast in his bag.
The Hydro Blast putter is known for being one of the best on the market for alignment and stability at impact. In addition, the Hydro Blast technology is a unique manufacturing process that provides a smoother and more durable finish to the putter. If you think you may need some of the same clubs as Rory for 2021, we recommend starting with this putter.
Rory McIlroy has always been a fan favorite. We have seen both the player and game evolve over the last ten years, and it has certainly been fun to watch the progress. McIlroy is a big proponent of the TaylorMade brand, something we see quite often from players that are serious about ball speed. Rory works with TaylorMade to put together golf club options that work for his game and to keep TaylorMade continually producing clubs for the best players in the world.
